Visas in Luxembourg

Luxembourg refers to the number of countries – the participants of the Schengen Agreement. For entry, citizens of Russia and the CIS requires a visa.

Types of Visa

Short-term visa – issued to persons whose goal is tourism, visiting relatives and friends, business visit or other purposes that are not related to the extraction of profits in Luxembourg. Short-term visa is issued for a period of no more than 90 days.

Long-term visa – It is issued only for trips with not tourist purposes.

Short-term visa

This type of visa is issued only if Luxembourg is a major stay country. In this case, the following documents are required in the consular department of the Luxembourg Embassy:

  • Passport, whose validity period is at least 3 months from the end of the trip;
  • photocopy of the first page of the passport with personal tourist data;
  • 2 questionnaires filled in English or French and signed by the applicant personally;
  • old passports if they have Schengen visas;
  • 2 color photographs with a size of 3.5 x 5 cm without corners and ovals, on matte photographic paper;

  • Medical insurance covered which is at least 30 thousand euros. The policy should be valid for the entire trip and throughout Schengen, and the list of services, except for medical, should also include repatriage of the remains to their homeland;
  • certificate from the place of work on the branded form, with the place of employment and experience in the organization, as well as salary. At the same time, in the case of a business trip, you must also specify the purpose of the trip and its dates in the reference. If the goal of the travel is tourism or a visit to relatives, the certificate must contain information that the employee’s vacation is available during the trip;
  • Students and schoolchildren provide a certificate from the place of study and a copy of the student ticket, pensioners – a copy of the pension certificate. Also in all these cases, a sponsored letter is provided from relatives who pay for the trip, certificate from their place of work with the position and salary, as well as a copy of the passport page with the personal data of the sponsor;
  • In the case of a private visit, the original invitation from a private person is required, indicating the nature of the relationship of inviting and invited, as well as the goals and timing of the trip to Luxembourg; In the case of a visit to close relatives – documentary confirmation of kinship (birth certificate, marriage and t.NS.). A certificate of wage invited over the past three months or a document issued by the state body certifying monthly or annual income, net or gross (pension certificate, extract from the tax register and T.NS.), a photocopy of the passport of a citizen of Luxembourg or a different document giving the right to an unlimited stay in the country;
  • If a tourist trip is planned, a hotel reservation (original or fax) is available for the entire period of stay in the country (with printing and signature of a responsible employee), as well as a travel plan (by day!) in English or French;
  • If a business visit is assumed, it is necessary to provide the original invitation on a company letter mark from a company or organization in Luxembourg (an invitation is sent to a person requesting a visa, or its place of work). The invitation must contain the applicant’s data, the goal and timing of the trip, as well as the guarantee of payment for its expenditure to stay in Luxembourg;
  • a copy or reservation of air tickets in both directions (tickets with an open date are not accepted);
  • evidence of the availability of sufficient funds for traveling at the rate of 50 euros per person per day (extract from a bank account, road checks, certificate of purchase of currency and t.NS.);
  • For children, it is necessary to provide a copy of the birth certificate. For children included in the parents’ passport and which have reached 6 years, the photo should be passed on. A child who has reached 14 years old must have his passport;
  • In the event that a child under 18 years old travels, accompanied by one of the parents or a third party, it is necessary to provide a notarized power of attorney (and its copy) from the remaining parent with direct permission to travel to Luxembourg and other countries of the Schengen Agreement, as well as a copy of the reversal Passports with photography and signature of the parent who gives consent.

The consular department of the Embassy reserves the right to demand the provision of additional documents if necessary or invite the applicant for an interview.

The procedure for making a visa

Documents must be submitted personally. If the documents applies a trustee, a notarized permission from the applicant is required. There is no pre-recording. Reception of documents and issuing finished visas is carried out in the consular department of the Luxembourg embassy in Moscow from Monday to Friday from 10.00 to 12.00.

Residents of St. Petersburg and the North-West Federal District may submit documents to the Luxembourg Schengen visa to the Visa Center of the Netherlands St. Petersburg. The standard period of registration of a visa to Luxembourg ranges from 7 to 14 business days.

Valid term of a visa

The term of the short-term visa can be up to 90 days of stay for every 180 days, but, as a rule, it is limited to the number of days to which the hotel is booked or which is indicated in the invitation.

Transit visa is issued for a period of stay in the country up to five days.

Border crossing

The presence of a visa in the passport does not guarantee entry into the country’s territory. Luxembourg border service may refuse to enter the country to any person if it does not be able to provide evidence of sufficient financial resources to stay in the country or documents confirming the hotel reservation, or an invitation from friends, relatives or business partners.
